26th Annual Fire and Ice Festival - Somerset PA

Somerset Inc. was founded in 1993 as a part of the National Main Street program to revitalize Somerset's uptown and its economic growth and community.  The organization founded the Fire & Ice Festival in 1994 to draw visitors during what is a typically slower time for businesses.  Each year Global/SFC has sponsored this wonderful event.

USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) Known as "Ike"

USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) (known informally as “Ike”) is a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier currently in service with the Untied States Navy.  Commissioned in 1977, the ship is the second of the ten Nimitz-class aircraft carriers currently in service and is the first ship named after the 34th President of the Untied States and General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Since commissioning, Dwight D. Eisenhower has participated in deployments including Operation Eagle Claw during the Iran hostage crisis in 1980, as well as the Gulf War in the 1990’s and more recently in support of the U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Currently “Ike” is operating in Atlantic Near Spain.

Global lands accolades

Global SFC/Valve Incorporated received the Governor’s Employer Award for Workforce Development for Western Pennsylvania.  Global was nominated by Jeff Dick and Deb hoover with Somerset Career Link and Susan Whisler with Southern Alleghenies.  This year the 36th Annual Employment, Training and Education Conference will be virtual on October 21st.  Linda Heining CEO/President and Sherry Abel Training Facilitator pre-recorded their acceptance speech that will be shown at the virtual conference.

Global is a manufacturer of U.S. Navy Standard Valves and Underway Replenishment Systems here in Somerset and has 50 employees. 

Last year Global completed 171 training classes for their employees, covering Blueprint reading, SolidWorks, Lean Manufacturing, Active Shooter Awareness, Cybersecurity and GibbsCAM.  FBI visited Global and trained the employees on counterintelligence.

Global have been approved through the State of Pennsylvania Apprenticeship board for a Machinist and Quality Assurance Inspector Apprenticeship programs.  These apprenticeship programs will allow employees to participate in accredited training through the National Tooling and Machinist Association as well as ToolingU training, with structured on the job training.
