On Friday, May 11, 2018 Global/SFC Valve Corporation hosted two High Schools, Berlin Brothersvalley and Turkeyfoot Valley. The tours were conducted by Bob Kirst, President and Darrin Gaudlip, Manager. The tour included a slide presentation that discuss what Global/SFC Valve Corporation manufacture which is fluid valves, various fittings and underway replenishment equipment for use aboard US Navy vessels. During the presentation both Bob and Darrin discuss the many opportunities for employment at Global; to name a few include Assemble and test critical components and assemblies, Inventory Control Personnel, Accounting and Costing Clerks, Welding, CNC programming and Machining and Test of critical components and assemblies, Drafting, Database management and IT positions.
After the presentation a walking tour consisted of touring different departments in the plant which included Assembly, Inventory Control, Production, Welding and Quality Control. The students were able to see the parts before they were machined and after they were machined. One very interesting area on the tour was the Coordinate-measuring machine (CMM) demonstration that was done by Matthew Rouch. The CMM is a device that measures the geometry of physical objects by sensing discrete points on the surface of the object with a probe. Special training is needed to program the CMM machine.
